What is the Hand In Hand Program?

Island Park's Hand In Hand program is aimed at reducing effective class size at Island Park. This is accomplished by funding six trained teaching assistants at Island Park. The additional staff enables our teachers to provide more differentiated instruction. For more information on our Hand In Hand program, read the Fact Sheet.

2011-12 HandInHand Parapros

What do the Parapros do?

During the school day, our parapros are helping our kids by:
  • Practicing reading and math facts one-on-one or in small groups
  • Conferencing with children in helping their writing
  • Teaching enrichment lessons
  • Conducting individual assessments with your child's teacher
  • Working with kids with special learning needs
  • Engaging highly capable children who want to be challenged

Why is Fundraising Necessary?

As many of you know, Washington State legislature does not fund education adequately and school funding continues to decline.  At Island Park, we took proactive steps to address these concerns and created the HIH program in 2001.  This program is privately funded through the families at Island Park Elementary School.

All funds raised for HIH remain at Island Park and directly help YOUR kids!
